In 1773, Lord Thanet, who resided at Skipton Castle, constructed a short branch canal linking his limestone quarry to the newly completed Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Skipton.
The towpath leads into Skipton Castle Woods, a rare and ancient woodland with a history that spans over a thousand years.
